Experience Summary
I have extensive teaching experience, not only in the classroom, but I have been a theatre director for twenty years, as well as a soccer coach. As a graduate student at the University of Idaho, I taught three years of various theatre classes. I spent the 2008-09 school year replacing the head of the theatre department at Centralia College in Centralia, WA. I have also taught at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and spent a year as a substitute teacher in the Coeur d'Alene School District #271. I am qualified in Theatre, Literary Arts, and English.
Teaching Style
What I have garnered from directing theatre is that everyone learns at their own pace, and I utilize that when I teach and coach as well. What I aim to do is create a trusting atmosphere, and employ a positive and nurturing demeanor. I also stress the importance of being focused and prepared, not just with specific subject matter, but in all phases of life, too. A positive outlook can have a major impact on the ability to learn and retain information, and I encourage and project this.
