Experience Summary
I have experience tutoring anything from phonics to college level writing. I taught preschool for a year and a half at the Lion and Lamb Christian Preschool in Reno, NV. I have also tutored at the UNR Writing Center (when it still existed) during the Fall semester of '08. Since October 2008 I have tutored at the Reno Huntington Learning Center where I teach phonics all the way up to SAT and ACT Verbal test prep. While at UNR I took an upper division English Class entitled "How to Tutor an English Writer." I also have a minor of Spanish from UNR. I am by no means fluent in the language but can read and understand it fairly well. I am comfortable tutoring anything below advanced high school Spanish.
Teaching Style
I think that kids light up life and make it interesting. That's why I love working with them. I love the intellectual stimulation of the older age groups and the academic challenge they present. However, I love working with the younger kids as well, learning their fresh take on life and watching them learn HOW to learn is like watching life happen before your eyes. I think the most important concept for me, as a tutor, to remember, is to allow the student to arrive at the answer themselves. To get them to think, and by thus doing so, empower them to sharpen their skills and learn independently.
