Experience Summary
There are 2 things that I’ve known since I was a child, I am fascinated by the study of biological mechanisms and I enjoy helping others. As an undergraduate at Allegheny College, I excelled in the biological sciences and was selected to be a teaching assistant for the Cellular Biology & Molecular Biology courses. Last spring I was asked to guest lecture at Central Catholic High School where I introduced the students to basic cancer biology. Most recently, I have taught a Microbiology course at CCAC. Although my formal PhD training is in biomedical research, I believe that the experiences described here have provided me the necessary framework for which to be a successful tutor and teacher.
Teaching Style
My style of teaching is simple - make the information easy to understand. I believe that I possess a unique ability to modify complex scientific material into a more straightforward idea. The use of analogies is one of the best ways that I do this. As a person I am patient and enjoy seeing the look of “aha! I get it!” in the learners eyes. I hope that my passion for the study of biology and science as a whole will spread to my students.
