Experience Summary
I have tutored K – college-aged students in various subjects. Most recently, I served as a math teacher under the federal Supplemental Education services program. / At Mind Matters Learning Ctr I worked w/ parents to understand their concerns, & corresponded w/ teachers to pin-point areas of need. I also developed entire HS & college course curriculum. / I focus on helping students embrace education as a “means” to a fulfilling future. For my older students, I have a knack for breaking complex info into a language students can better understand. I also incorporate “real-world” examples to incorporate relevance. For elem. students, I create fun games & activities based on curriculum standards.
Teaching Style
My professional writing experience has has sharpened my ability to communicate and explain information in a variety of ways - a skill that comes in especially handy with students who need a fresh approach to tackling their struggles. I often hear students say, "Now I see - that makes perfect sense!" My professional writing experience includes three syndicated columns.
With each new student, I start with getting to know the student as a person - not just for learning style purposes, but also for the student to understand that I am here for him/her. This helps avoid intimidation too, as a straight jump to students' academic challenges can sometimes get your sessions started on the wrong foot.
