Experience Summary
I have been in Education for over 20 years. Most recently I have been a substitute teacher in all subject areas and grade levels. I have a strong Science background and I am a published author so I am proficient in Reading/Writing. For the past 10 years I have taught K-8 students computer applications across all disciplines. For instance, utilizing EXCEL in Math lessons, or using WORD or POWERPOINT to promote Language Arts skills (Writing, Drafting, Editing, and Publishing). I have several years experience working with autistic and other developmental disabilities in children.
Teaching Style
I very much have a "hands-on" teaching style. I am a visual learner myself, so my teaching style reflects that methodology. I explain the concept, demonstrate the process, reintroduce the steps and then allow my students to practice, practice, practice while offering guidance, suggestions, and positive reinforcement. I am very aware that all students are different. What I have come to learn is that with patience and the desire to truly want each child to succeed, all students can learn. I am a veteran so I pride myself on being organized and disciplined. I am also a volunteer in nursing homes so I consider myself to be compassionate, patient and understanding.
