Experience Summary
I graduated with honors from Old Dominion University, was a member of the National English Honor Society, and possess a bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis in secondary education. My professional experience includes teaching all levels of high school English, including honors and special needs programs. I spent three years teaching English, communications, and vocabulary courses in a post-secondary career development school. I also have several years experience tutoring students of all grade levels, from kindergarten to college, in English skills, reading, writing, and verbal SAT preparation.
Teaching Style
I am a very enthusiastic teacher and tutor. I love to see a student's eyes light up because he/she has had an "aha!" moment and finally understands a concept with which he/she had been struggling. I understand that all students have different learning styles, and I believe it is the teacher's job to tap into those styles and present lessons in a way which will appeal to the student. It is important to me to show students how reading and writing skills apply to their lives and how they will use these tools in their future careers. My goal is to motivate all my students to reach their full potential and to give them confidence that they can and will succeed in reading and writing.
