Experience Summary
As an editor working with young writers and as a college professor teaching students, I have spent most of my adult life passing on writing, communication and reading comprehension skills to young people.
I enjoy it. I enjoy it because it matters. Writing is a lifelong skill. The ability to comprehend information and communicate clearly can make the difference in passing a class, getting into college or getting a job.
My skills in writing and editing come from hundreds of published stories and dozens of successful academic papers. My work in assisting students with applications of many kinds has been largely successful. I’ve read dozens of classic novels and can provide excellent guidance in many aspects of reading comprehension.
Teaching Style
I realize that learning reading and writing skills can be difficult. When I teach young people, I work to push each person patiently but constantly to improve with each lesson. Each person learns a little differently, and I like to learn the student’s strengths and weaknesses and work from there.
I support hands-on learning. There is only so much a person can talk about writing. The best way to learn writing is to write. The best way to improve reading comprehension is to read. Reading unlocks vocabulary. And a good vocabulary helps in written and verbal communication.
My passion for teaching these skills comes from my belief that they matter and that I’m helping someone with a skill that will help them succeed.
