Experience Summary
Having graduated with honors from a top university, the greatest asset I offer comes from my real world teaching experience. During my tenure as a substitute I have taught at all levels, from kindergarten to middle-aged adults, in all subject areas. Even as a young person I was involved with teaching others; I first began as a teacher's aid in high school and later I served as a tutor in college. This led to teaching full-time at the kindergarten level. Last year I worked in a summer camp in Canada and I completed my TESOL training and I was successful in teaching English in Paris France in the fall. Returning to California I continue to teach part time for the Ventura Unified School District.
Teaching Style
My training in rhetoric, speech, and debate has taught me the importance of speaking clearly and articulately. This means that I pay close attention to language and I try to bring out that quality in my students.
Other methods that I use come from my time as a foreign language teacher. Here, repetition and practice of introduced concepts are key. It's not enough to simply pass on ideas and words, the student must engage with the material for it to become real.
Even though I might teach to high standards I am a very easy going person!
