Experience Summary
I have a bachelors and masters degree in music. I majored in vocal performance but am also a proficient pianist and have taught music theory and written a book of sight singing exercises for young singers. I taught voice and piano at several music schools in the Chicago area for more than 20 years. I believe each student possesses a unique talent and learning style. As a teacher may goal is to have an atmosphere of open communication and respect.
Teaching Style
I truly enjoy teaching and unlocking the fun and enjoyment of music. I am a patient and easy going teacher with many years experience. I believe that no two students have exactly the same learning style so my approach is always to develop a rapor with my students to gain insight into their particular learning styles. I always aim to make the lesson interesting and fun and will try different approaches to keep the pace at the right level. I break music down into fundamental elements that are easy to understand and embrace and will keep the student from becoming discouraged. I believe the student should have a sense of accomplishment and success.
