Experience Summary
I am currently teaching first-year composition as a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati. I have been teaching at UC for two academic years and will graduate with my MA degree in June 2010. I teach and design freshman and sophomore level writing courses independently as a graduate teacher. I have taken the Praxxis English exam and can provide test scores upon request. As an undergraduate, I completed two years of elementary education coursework, including educational psychology and educational technology. During my undergraduate degree, I worked in the college writing center as well as volunteered as a teachers’ aid at local elementary schools.
Teaching Style
My approach to composition is simple; think, write, repeat. This means that I use a process-oriented method as students draft and re-draft based upon the new ideas and insights which are gained through the practice of writing. I also employ post-process pedagogy, encouraging student participation in the world around them. I want them to engage with the private and public spheres. My goal for my students is to think about how ideas are intertwined across the disciplines and how the critical thinking skills learned in one course can work with the theoretical skills they learn in another. When they leave me, I want them to be self-sufficient learners who can analyze, organize and teach others what they have learned.
