Experience Summary
I began my musical journey learning the value of playing by ear from my father, a very skillful jazz trumpet player. I played in the local jazz workshop with accomplished musicians while in high school and was awarded a scholarship to the Jamey Aebersold Jazz clinic in Indiana.
Also, I attended a Christian University where I was selected to play in a band that was on a televised show nationally for three years.
After earning a music degree(BME),as well as the the Pressor Scholar award, I taught at an inner-city music school for five years and gave private lessons before and after school.
Teaching Style
I have a passion for teaching children as well as adults how to use music as a tool for expression. I encourage listening to music and interacting with it (playing by ear with music selected by the student and/or teacher) in order to understand its langauage. My mission is to give to others what God has given to me:
A deep appreciation for how music can be used as a tool to express joy and gratitude to my creator.
