Experience Summary
Throughout my 25 years working in business, I have enjoyed many opportunities to train, mentor and coach colleagues one on one. Many have been from another culture which adds to the delight of the learning experience as we work together.
I originally trained as a tutor in the Rockingham County GED program in Exeter. I worked with a series of adult learners tutoring each in English and Math. I also tutored a high school teenager for whom English was her second language. We primarily discussed math and geography. My strength is working one on one.
Additionally I teach children in Sunday school and in preparation for field trips as we travel around New England studying early American and church history.
Teaching Style
I love math and thick it is fun! I enjoy facilitating the ah ha moments when a learner gets it!
I direct the student by asking questions and encouraging them to develop an understanding of why they are applying a certain method to solve a particular math problem. I use demonstrations to enable the student to visualize the math concept and relate it to their physical world and to experience its practical application in daily life.
I believe math is most easily grasped by showing the student how to approach the problem, encouraging them to observe (and understand the logical progression) and then repeat on their own with assistance as needed.
