Experience Summary
As an art teacher of over 15 years, I have taught painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, graphic arts, art history, and darkroom photography. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at Christopher Newport University and my Master of Arts degree in Teaching and Learning (in the art classroom) from Nova Southeastern University. I have also taught German, tutored pre-algebra, and coached high school tennis. Currently, I am a freelance graphic and fine artist, as well as an art history research writer.
Teaching Style
I love teaching art to all age levels. I really enjoy it when I show someone an art technique, they learn it, and make it their own. When teaching art, I feel it very important to demonstrate a technique, discuss how the technique has been used in different cultures, and then for the student to mimic my actions. Once the technique has been mastered, the student can take the technique and use it in their own way.
As a math tutor, I work closely to find a method that clicks for the student. I am very patient, and I use various ways of solving a problem to find the one that the student can most understand.
