Experience Summary
I am completing my degree in Elementary Education/Language Arts from Oakland University. I've spent countless hours in the classroom working with a variety of students. I have experience tutoring students in math and English. I have experience tutoring cognitively impaired students as well. I recently discovered alternate ways to teach math. I have learned the importance of using manipulatives to teach math concepts and believe that a hands-on approach to not only math, but every subject increases the students abilitiy to retain the information. I believe that everything needs to be couched in literature and have recently started my own library of books that explain different English and math concepts.
Teaching Style
Teaching another individual and seeing that "light bulb" when they finally understand a concept they have been struggling with is a great joy to me! I believe strongly about incorporating creativity into teaching and also teaching to every style of learning. This includes auditory, visual, and kinesthetic ways of teaching so that every individual will be able to learn in a way that best suits their personal learning style. I believe that everyone is capable of learning. When a concept is not grasped, I believe that sometimes it is because the concept is not being taught in a way that the student understands it. I am open to trying new ways of teaching and planning different activities in order for the students to gain understanding.
