Experience Summary
I was lucky enough to spend four years doing what I love: reading and writing. I graduated from BYU-Idaho with a BA in English, with an emphasis in literary studies, and a minor in Humanities. I spent 2 years tutoring students in the BYU-Idaho reading center. My experience ranged from beginning readers to college level speed reading techniques. I spent a large amount of time working with ESL students. These experiences not only gave me a better understanding of the concepts of grammar and comprehension, but a greater appreciation of the English language itself.
Teaching Style
I discovered my teaching techniques while working as a tutor and have perfected them for the past seven years as a mother of four young children. My main goal when tutoring or teaching is to guide the student to the answer through their own knowledge. I have found that by sharing the necessary tools for learning has been so much more beneficial than just offering the easy way out.
I have also discovered that by applying the dilemma to the student’s life, the answers seem to appear more easily to them and become applicable in more ways than just an answer on a test.
