Experience Summary
After earning my B.F.A. from V.C.U. (magna cum laude) with double minors in art history and Italian, I moved to New York and worked in the creative, behind-the-scenes world of theatre and television. After six years of production work my husband and I moved to Rhode Island, whereupon I fell in love with teaching. For the past two years I have attended Providence College, working towards a post-baccalaureate degree in English Language Arts and secondary education certification. During my studies at P.C. I have maintained the same level of academic excellence as demonstrated in my undergraduate coursework. In addition to student-teaching full time in Woonsocket, RI, I also teach adult education classes in academic writing and college prep.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is organically structured, with an emphasis on scaffolding prior knowledge to new concepts. Being sensitive to the diversity of learners, I customize my teaching style to fit each individual’s specific needs. I have high expectations for my students, however, I base my expectations on their ability levels; levels that I am constantly monitoring in order to determine whether I need to ramp up the level of instruction or make accommodations until the theory at hand is fully grasped. Not only do I emphasize the curriculum at hand, I also teach the student that proper organization and study skills can have significant impact on their overall academic success.
