Experience Summary
As a long-time instructor in English, both in public schools and in higher education, I have encountered many students of many different backgrounds, learning styles, and ages, in the classroom and online. I have taught in many areas of English-related courses. These courses have included writing, literature, reading, public speaking, report writing, film and humanities, and other liberal arts courses. Currently, I teach at a regional University in Business Communications, tutor, and substitute teach in my community.
Teaching Style
I especially value working with students by "starting where they are" and building a learning path together to reach the goals that the student has set for himself or herself. Meeting the student's needs -- rather than achieving my goals for your student -- comes first. My passion is in learning from each student first what those needs are. Then, by listening and learning from the student, together, we develop a strategy to meet those needs and even surpass that goal to create lifelong learning. I have found that the greatest skills and values in my tutoring are active listening and open communication at all times. I look forward to meeting with you and your student!
