Experience Summary
I graduated with two bachelor degrees(in English Literature and in Theater Arts). I had planned to continue my graduate studies to obtain my Oregon Teacher's Certificate. Due to legislation, there was a radically decreased need for teachers. I decided after my children were grown to return to school to obtain a Masters' degree. I have been a substitute teacher in Oregon for tutoring/detention while a teacher was on medical leave, and was a teacher's aide in California. I was also the team's scribe and grammatist while in graduate school. The other memebers of the team would submit their parts of the project and I was in charge of making sure everything was properly edited and grammatically precise.
Teaching Style
I am a lover of English - good writing and good grammar never go "out of style." As such, I love to instill a love of reading in those whom I teach. I am a visual learner, but this does not preclude my keen awareness and full acceptance of other modes of learning. I am someone who holds herself to a very high standard of efficiency and accuracy, but I try to convey the need for these in a student by having fun with the subject at hand, be it English, Theater or Business. My proudest day is the one when a student has that "Aha!" moment and grasps the gist of the subject they are attempting to learn, and then finds joy in what they have learned.
