Experience Summary
I graduated with a 4.2 GPA from high school as a member of National Honors Society and National Art Honors Society. I won multiple college scholarships based on my portfolio and earned additional merit-based scholarships each year I attended, ultimately graduating Suma Cum Laude. During college I taught Saturday morning art classes to high schoolers--Photography and Senior Portfolio, a class assisting students in applying for art school and scholarships. Since then, I have taught and mentored both informally and formally through my church and Big Brothers Big Sisters Project Mentor program. I also speak regularly at engagements I’ve been invited to as a professional, award-winning comic book artist and writer.
Teaching Style
I spend a great deal of time connecting with teenage fans of my work, guiding them in their own journeys as aspiring artists. I love inspiring young people serious about their artistic careers and eager to grow. Direction and critique are essential to any artist and I believe students thrive under a knowledgeable mentor who can identify areas that need improvement, give instruction and direction in how to do so, and offer artists’ work that will inspire them outside of the tutoring sessions. It is important to me to not just offer standard advice to every young person, but to look at each individual’s strengths, passions and goals, and then to create a path unique to them, helping them achieve what they want in the next step of their life.
