Experience Summary
As a student of painting and drawing at the Ohio State University, my dedication to education earned me the honor of graduating summa cum laude with distinction in art. Since graduation in 2000, I have continued to work as an artist, but I have also found that I love to work with others to assist in the development of their artistic skills. Teaching art and life skills to children as an Americorps volunteer in 2003 enabled me to formalize my teaching abilities. I have over ten years experience working with young people.
Teaching Style
I love to witness the empowerment felt by a young person when they master a skill. The most rewarding projects I created were those that enabled kids who felt that art was either too difficult or "uncool" to create work that they took pride in displaying. Art is a vital means of communication. I use patience, creativity, and honest feedback to prevent students from becoming disenchanted, leaving the great potential they have undiscovered. I feel privileged as a tutor to be a part of the process of a student exceeding their goals.
