Experience Summary
The early years of my experience were in the junior high setting. I taught sixth through ninth grade during this time, drawing heavily on my background strengths in theater, literature, grammar, creative writing, and my years as a legal secretary. I developed curriculum for the English department and was instrumental in launching an exploratory study system for alternative, creative learning.
For the last twelve years, I have taught basic writing for the Salt Lake Community College and the University of Phoenix. I have also served the Education Departments at the University of Phoenix and Utah State University as a Supervisor to student teachers in grades 1-12.
Teaching Style
The hallmark of my teaching style is patience. If students do not immediately grasp a concept, I accept and relish the challenge of finding a way to reach through the barrier. I have found my greatest success is achieved when foundational concepts are built or re-built. A step-by-step approach usually works best, but I have developed great flexibility from working with students who function across a wide range of learning challenges.
