Experience Summary
I have worked as both a staff and client educator and trainer. I have designed and led soft trainng workshops as well as conducted one on one training sessions in the private sector.
As relevant to my chosen area of instruction I have also been an ensemble guitarist and percussionist for the last 30 years and as such have a firm understanding on the basics of guitar instruction to include basic theroy, technique and style.
I currently work as a volunteer workshop trainer for the State of California.
Teaching Style
My approach to guitar instruction is divided into four sections as presented below:
1) Explanation
2) Demonstration
3) Participation
4) Question and answer
This format allows for explaination of a topic such as perhaps alternate flat picking technique and a discussion of its importance. I would then per item 2 demonstrate the technique. Item three involves the student in the excercise or passage in a highly supportive and coached manner until a level of understanding sufficent to guarantee future improvement has been established. Item four is reserved for question and answer regarding the lesson or other wider apects of learning the instrument and closing with practice excercises.
