Experience Summary
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University. This gives me a broad knowledge base in many educational arenas. I have tutoring experience with the program "Second Chance Saturdays" for high school students who are behind in their requirements for graduation, covering subjects from Spanish to Mathematics. I have also taught classes of adults in a public mental health program. In addition to that, I have provided private drum set lessons for several years. As a result of my educational background and work experience, I possess extensive skills required for any professional situation. Education, particularly with children, is one thing that I am passionate about.
Teaching Style
Because I have an extensive background in Psychology, I have a strong understanding of the learning process, as well as many other factors that affect it. I focus on each individual child's strengths and use that to bring their weaknesses up to a higher level. Through patience and encouragement, I believe that most children can experience dramatic improvements in their abilities. I am able to explain complex ideas clearly, in simple terms that are understandable. Then I expand on what the child already understands until they have mastered the more advanced concepts. I greatly enjoy the excitement, challenge, and reward of enriching a child's life through education.
