Experience Summary
I have earned both a BS and Ph.D. in Chemistry. I have experience in all areas of chemistry from my extensive research background at several institutions. After completing my doctorate, I spent 4 years at the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) as a postdoctoral fellow. During my tenure at NIST I spent 2 years devoted to mentoring middle school girls, served as judge at several scientific conferences and career advisor to undergraduates at my Alma mater. I have been a tutor since I was an undergraduate. I tutored Chemistry, Math, Biology and Physics. As a graduate student, I held the position of teaching assistant in General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and medicinal Chemistry for a total of 4 years.
Teaching Style
I am the product of two trained teachers and I have always had the desire to share the knowledge that I have gained. I believe that we are all unique individuals and as such grow, learn and process things at different rates. It is therefore very important as a tutor to first access the needs of the pupil. I am a firm believer in teaching through interactive learning. Students learn best from being able to identify things that they have learnt with real life situations. I also believe that patience is one of the qualities of a good educator and with patience mountains can be moved. I strive to make the experience of learning science a meaningful and fun filled one.
