Experience Summary
I am an old school educator; my students learn the whys behind the hows. I absolutely love knowledge and plan to continue my education for as long as I can. I am currently working on a PhD in Fiction Writing at UNL, but I nearly have a BA in History, and would like to turn that into a Masters as soon as I can. I've been teaching English Composition, Literature and Creative Writing since 1998, and my students are winning awards left and right. I'm well read and aware of haptic, audio and visual learning styles as well as being adept in discovering possible learning disabilities.
Teaching Style
I try to employ "active learning" with call and response lecturing. I also encourage students to identify how they learn, by noting their own strengths such as linear or circular thinking. I also help them identify how they learn the best and encourage research, research, research as well as using games and multiple approaches to difficult concepts. I've been a college adviser and lecturer for the since August of 2003, so I'm patient, caring, concerned, but able to impart discipline and organization skills. I hold students to high expectations, but I coach them into understanding how to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. I care about them, and they respond.
