Experience Summary
I have privately tutored students that recently arrived from Japan in English with a focus on conversation to enable them to quickly feel comfortable in a new country. As they attained conversation skills I changed my focus to education based teaching with a focus on understanding the classroom teacher and being able to participate in the classroom discussion. I have a degree in English but I have completed through Calculus 2 and have taken Physics and Chemistry courses so I spread the focus of the lessons through different disciplines with the goal of facilitating classroom learning.
Teaching Style
I build a relationship of trust with the students and offer positive reinforcement and use humor to engage all of them. My initial goal is to engage the students then move on to teaching with the final goal being the understanding of the subject in a way that is deeper then just memorization. I want the students to understand why cats see well in the dark instead of just knowing that they do. My specialty is English Literature but I enjoy teaching science and math.
