Experience Summary
Having graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a degree in English, I am eager to put my newly certified expertise to use. I've become skilled in both the literary and writing aspects of the English major. I'm familiar with Victorian, British, American, Post Colonial, and Gothic literature. The level at which my writing skills currently stand is credited to courses inclusive of Writing for Science and Technology, Writing for Humanities, Fiction Writing, Non Fiction Writing, News Writing, Creative Writing, and Advanced Composition. I have been published in both literary and academic journals and have worked as a staff writer for the university's newspaper, where I had a short lived advice column, for which I was the sole writer.
Teaching Style
I have tutored a handful of high school students in English and Mathematics. My personality in my social life is outgoing, friendly, and talkative. My tutoring style is no different. In my own schooling experience, I've found that I learn quicker and most efficiently when the person teaching me is more of a friend than a superior. The students I've tutored looked at me as a peer who could help them with their studies as opposed to a teacher. I whole heartedly believe that a comfortable and friendly atmosphere is the key to successful learning. There is no rule that states the sticking to the task at hand and getting work done should be completely empty of enjoyment. "We'll get things done while having some fun." That's my motto.
