Experience Summary
As a graduate of a liberal arts oriented school, it was always impressed upon me that the ability to question and draw conclusions would lead to later successes. In addition, creating links from the theoretical to the practical though research techniques and observation is the only way to accurately correlate classroom and real world learning. I have over 2 years of experience tutoring limited English speakers and 1 year of substitute teaching experience in the 6th grade classroom. In that year I was the primary teacher responsible for creating a conducive atmosphere to learning as well as assessing and managing students and their personal ability to learn in the public school environment.
Teaching Style
My approach to tutoring is very much student centered. I focus on encouraging my students to draw conclusions and by creating an environment which supports questions and critical thinking. It is important to emphasize that there is a difference in the way the younger children and older adults process and absorb information. A tailored approach to the individual as well as to the subject is key to a students success. Often times it is the encouragement and support of the tutor which can make the difference in a students ability to achieve success.
