Experience Summary
My interest in helping others with english grammar and spelling stems from my experience both at the college level, and seeing written communications in the business world. If I can help a few students improve in this area, it could make all the difference to them in their future employment.
My bookkeeping/accounting teaching experience has been acquired primarily on the job as the Controller in a small, privately held corporation for twenty-two years. My own learning was acquired through a combination of classroom experiences, hands on learning, and utilizing the expertise of our company’s outside CPA. I could then apply what I learned in training others.
Teaching Style
I like to provide students with an outline of the subject matter, then focus on areas that need my help. I find that combining theory with practical, hands on experience provides the best overall learning experience.
When you can show the final effects of what they are doing and how it relates back to what they started with, it promotes better understanding. I then let the student’s feedback guide me as to the next focus area.
The joy for me comes when you suddenly see the "light bulb" go off in a student's expression of understanding. That makes the student remember the lessons long-term.
