Experience Summary
While attending USU, I spent two semesters working at Wilson Elementary School. I was a teachers aide in the special education classroom. I provided instruction and practice in reading, writing, and arithmetic. My first school of employment was a residential treatment center for troubled youth. While employed there, I taught math subjects ranging from General Math to Calculus. I learned to explain concepts in a variety of ways that did not result in the students become frustrated. I have written many reports describing student behavior, learning preferences, and classroom accommodations that would benefit the student. At my current school, I am teaching math courses to students grades 7th - 12th.
Teaching Style
Teaching is a gift from the student to the teacher. The student is giving their time and attention to the teacher in hopes that they will increase in understanding, ability, or skill. This is a time where the students is relaxed and open to learning new ideas. There is not pressure to learn, but an excitement to succeed. All students can learn, given the proper instruction. Teachers have to pay attention to the learning preferences of the student. Effective instruction identifies strengths to build on and uses them to teacher additional concepts. Weaknesses and gaps in learning are identified and remedied. I greatly enjoy teaching mathematics. I know that I have made a difference in lives of my students.
