Experience Summary
I received a B. A. degree in French with a minor in English. I have tutored two ESL students, one from Mexico and the other from Turkey through Literacy Volunteers of America. My teaching focused on pronunciation, reading, spelling and both students completed short story projects for the LVA yearly publication. I am fluent in English and French and understand how difficult it is to understand the subtleties of a language. I have worked as a translator for English/French. I am also certified as a Freelance Writer. I worked as a test script writer for software programs. Language is communication and it is important to be able to communicate effectively.
Teaching Style
I believe that every student can learn with proper guidance and a positive attitude. First, I get to know my student and then I find out what difficulties they’re having i.e. the need to learn at a slower pace or distracted by sports or other things? Using those answers,I develop a program that makes learning interesting. I encourage student participation, praising the effort they make. I thank them for coming to the sessions and putting in their time and effort, making my students feel that the subject matter is important. It continues to motivate them to achieve greater results. I try to demonstrate to them that learning this material will matter in the future and that it is building blocks and not stumbling blocks to greater things.
