Experience Summary
I am a knowledgeable, experienced and well-trained educator. Students appreciate me because I am firm but fair and down to earth.
Co-workers and administrators have described me as caring and creative. I have become highly effective in teaching strategies during 25 years of teaching.
My formal education began in New York. At the time, writing was my first love, yet I had a strong desire to teach as well. I combined both passions by majoring in English with an Education minor, and earned my B.A. in 1984.
I began my teaching career in New York and after relocating to South Carolina in 1998.
I completed a Masters degree in Education at Columbia College, 2002.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is one where I combine the approach that best suits the individual’s personal learning style with proven sound educational best practices. I have had successes with motivating students who usually do not like to read. I have been able to help them by meeting them where they are and then helping them to formulate and meet their own goals. I have high expectations of students; however, those expectations are tempered with a realistic assessment of what the student is actually capable of achieving. I find oftentimes that students are capable of doing a great deal more than they thought they could originally.
