Experience Summary
I have spent over 30 years in business and financial consulting. My lifelong passion has been for mathematics and education. I have reached a point in my career where I can focus on giving back of my talents to students through mathematics education. I have minimal formal teaching experience (student teaching and adult education at the college level). But my career has included extensive education and training of adults from diverse skill levels and cultural backgrounds. I am well versed in the real-life application of mathematics in business, finance, and insurance. My mathematics is current and applicable from middle school through most undergraduate college courses, especially statistics.
Teaching Style
My teaching style varies with student learning styles. Although drill may be appropriate for some skills, my preference is project or problem based methods that draw on the learner's experiences and interests. I work from students' current skill levels, provide challenging problems, model successful learning skills, encourage students' to express creativity and intuition, and employ formative and normative assessments. I firmly believe that more advanced mathemtaics can be taught to younger and more diverse students. I believe that all students, of all skill levels, can learn mathemtaics if creatively taught.
