Experience Summary
While working toward my bachelor's and master's degrees, I was an honor student and a member of three honor societies. I attribute much of my success to superior writing skills, and have experience educating adults applying to an adult degree program, educating coworkers and others on a variety of subjects, and tutoring classmates in writing. I was a professional writer for a regional newspaper, and have published a journal article and a chapter in a book. I have an ability to discern particular writing weaknesses in the people I have tutored and am able to address those areas of need. I am well versed in literature, history, test-taking skills, grammar, vocabulary, and use of punctuation.
Teaching Style
The first step in tutoring is to assess the need of the individual and determine what area or areas of learning or skill need to be addressed. It is also necessary to determine the student's learning style so that teaching will be as efficient and successful as possible. I am able to put students at ease, providing as stress-free an environment as possible, and use humor and encouragement as a way of keeping the student interested and engaged.
