Experience Summary
I have taught both middle school and high school students, and I have extensive experience understanding how adolescents learn. I'm skilled at determining why a student may struggle with certain concepts/skills, etc., and can positively lead a student through a process of understanding based upon the unique learning style of that particular student.
Teaching Style
I believe in connecting the learner with the content in order to make the whole process real and relevant, not just isolated pockets of fact-finding. I do this by creating a non-judgmental, non-threatening learning relationship in an environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. I determine what kind of obstacles a student may be constructing that can undermine his/her ability to be successful in the classroom. I pride myself in being able to help students discover their own best methods for overcoming roadblocks to learning while understanding how to think about how their own thinking! Students enthusiastically and thankfully find that this process serves them for the rest of their educational careers!
