Experience Summary
My most recent department chair, Dr. Marie Jureit called me the best teacher on campus. I've taught and tutored students for 37 years in music theory and composition, music of Africa and Latin America, and mathematics through college freshman algebra. As Director of the Freshman Program, I was responsible for designing and implementing programs in developing reading and writing proficiency, and overall ability to succeed in academics. I currently tutor, and edit and market k - 12 math materials.
Teaching Style
I discovered my gift for teaching as an undergraduate and it has been my life's work. My approach is to guide students in making their discoveries rather than making them remember what I discovered and told them about. Making their own discoveries, guided by me, they feel better about themselves as learners, bring more of themselves to the learning process, and develop greater confidence and competence.
