Experience Summary
I have been in education as both a classroom teacher and as a director of a learning center for the last 25 years. I have also done tutoring in math, reading, and study skills at the elementary level. The most fulfilling work I have done is the most recent; working with at risk students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade as part of a special county program. I was responsible for planning the curriculum at each grade level, and implementing those plans.
Teaching Style
I love seeing children be successful! I feel it is of the utmost importance to help a child realize that they have the potential to accomplish what is given to them academically. I feel this can be done by effectively knowing what motivates the student, individualizing the learning to best suit the child's needs, and providing positive reinforcement. I believe in a hands on approach to learning, and am thrilled when a child has discovered that a skill has been mastered through efforts by both of us. I feel that learning is best accomplished in an atmosphere that is consistent but also nurturing.
