Experience Summary
I have been a multi-disciplinary science and mathematics tutor for over 20 years. I have tutored jr high, high school, college, university, and graduate students in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. I have tutored in a one-on-one, drop-in, and group tutoring capacity. I have tutored science and mathematics at both junior college and university levels; this was accomplished through private tutoring, learning resource centers, or through college departments/academic student organizations. I tutored microbiology for four years as an instructional assistant. Furthermore, I have been involved in basic language skill and writing composition workshop courses with 45 hours of instructor supervision. I have also taught an entry level inorganic chemistry laboratory at the university. I have received two bachelor degrees from a northern California university in Biological Science/Applied Mathematics and Professional Chemistry (American Chemical Society Certified) with a minor in Geoscience. I believe the smaller, individualized university instruction has helped me to develop a broad spectrum of understanding in both mathematics and the sciences
Teaching Style
I remember my first tutor in junior high. He helped me gain an understanding beyond just the numbers and the formulas. From his example, I started tutoring friends as a sophomore in high school. I enjoy helping others see beyond the numbers, in understanding the basics, and seeing how everything fits together. I enjoy guiding the way and helping to enlighten children that have that innate curiosity.
How many can envision the one (or two) individuals that helped them to see and imagine? I do and have strived to be there for friends, family, and students alike.
