Experience Summary
As a tutor of student athletes at Indiana University, I tutored students from all walks of life. I began by tutoring Biology and Spanish but the need for tutors in English, Writing, Chemistry and Statistics soon arose and I stepped up to fill those positions. Using previous knowledge from AP classes in high school, as well as recent knowledge gained from my classes, I was able to successfully convey new information in easy to understand and applicable terms to these students. This past year I tutored high school math, English and Genetics.
Teaching Style
I have always enjoyed teaching others sharing my love of learning. I find it most effective to use a variety of methods to successfully teach information. Material is best learned when it can be easily understood by the student and has practical applications for everyday life. I am not the type of tutor to just hand out answers to problems. I guide my students down a path of critical thinking, all the while leading them to the answer by asking a series of questions designed to stimulate their thought process. I will find a different way to explain the material if the student does not comprehend it. I will always work at the pace of the student. I believe in encouraging each student to stimulate confidence and foster their potential.
