Experience Summary
I have a BS in Mathematics from Cal Poly Pomona along with 8 years of work experience tutoring secondary students and college students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus Honors, Calculus AB, I and II, Physics AP, Spanish and French 1. I am currently completing a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics with BCLAD emphasis in Spanish at Cal Poly Pomona. In addition to these subjects I am fully capable of tutoring in ESL and Spanish, for I have been a dedicated student of the Spanish language while living in Peru for 18 years and, I have also had that many years of studying English as a Second language while enrolled in a strong bilingual program from kinder garden through high school.
Teaching Style
I am confident that I can help my students improve in their performance in any of the above-mentioned subjects in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I believe that any student can learn a subject once he or she is able to understand its concepts and practice its procedures following a consistent set of steps. Having a thorough understanding of mathematics and physics allows me to break down concepts, explain them using different approaches, diagnose where the student has misconceptions or difficulties, and to review skills that will enable the student to have a strong foundation. I also have access to software, activities and manipulatives that may make the learning process more fun.
