Experience Summary
I have helped others with their approach to learning for over 25 years. I tutored in several subjects in high school, and Algebra I in college. I developed several documents and training sessions during 14 years as a computer professional, and am proficient in breaking down concepts so that they are easier to understand. I have been a substitute teacher for the past 5 years in elementary and middle schools. I worked for Orange County Public Schools as an elementary reading tutor in 2008. I was a private Algebra I tutor in the spring of 2009, and volunteered as a reading helper in the elementary school during this time. My strengths are in math through Algebra I, reading, grammar, writing and the sciences.
Teaching Style
The taste of success is a great motivator in education, but students are often exposed to destructive associations of failure. My teaching style is to provide the tools for a student to take accountability for their academic success in order to tap into their learning potential so that they can flourish. My goal is to enable a student to be a successful life-long learner. I am enthusiastic and motherly. I care for students. I adjust my approach based on various types of educational environments and students, traditional and non-traditional, accelerated to learning-challenged. I will work with a student to move beyond “I don’t get it!” in order to put the pieces together.
