Experience Summary
As an English tutor for the Kent State Writing Commons for four years, I was able to work with a wide variety of students. I enjoyed working with everyone from new entering freshmen to doctoral students. I also worked people in different educational backgrounds and people who were culturally diverse. English as a Second Language (ESL) students were also apart of my daily tutoring regimen. I also have a background which involves working with children ages 6-15. As a childcare provider I taught small classes of children basic reading and writing skills.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is a “hands on” approach. I like to find out what the student already knows about the subject. I then like to fill in the missing links for the student in a fun, and interactive manner. I discuss any questions that the student has about the material after the initial information is given. I complete the process by going over examples and looking at work that they have completed in the past to show he student how to employ the skills that I taught during the lesson.
