Experience Summary
I have over 15 years experience as a classroom teacher in English and a decade of most recent experience as an Orton Gillingham Reading Tutor/Interventionist and general academic tutor (including Writing) from Elementary through Adult. I specialize in helping the struggling reader learn “the code” of English so the barriers to reading can be lifted. I also am experienced in helping struggling readers develop fluency and comprehension skills and strategies. I am a certified Reading Specialist and English Teacher in MA.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is both relaxed and focused. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students and also am aware that I learn from them. I believe that goals are important in lesson planning and children benefit from structure as long as it isn’t rigid. At times it’s important to respond to the direct concerns and/or questions a student may have even if they are not part of the planned lesson. If I’m doing my job well, when a student leaves me, they are happy and feel they have progressed toward becoming more skillful in language, especially reading.
