Experience Summary
I will be doing my student teaching in January of 2011. I am in my final year at Western Governors University.I have taught Sunday School to teens 13-18 for nine years. I am responsible for lesson plans. I have tutored two high school students and one college student each for one semester in various math subjects. All three saw an improvement in their grade. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra but am willing and able to tutor all math up to and including Calculus. I am also semi-fluent in Spanish to the degree that I did taxes for Spanish speaking customers for two years.
Teaching Style
I love teaching and it is in my blood. My father taught for 39 years in Philadelphia public schools and my Grandmother and brother were and are teachers. I would describe my style as energetic, fun and creative. I know that different students learn in different ways. Sometimes a rhyme helps with memorization or an analogy helps you understand a concept.I take a vested interest in getting to know all my students and what works for them.I firmly believe that they do not care what you know til they know that you care.I believe teachers most important job is to teach students how to learn.If you can help them develop that skill they will be much more effective students.
