Experience Summary
I hold a BA and an MA in English from Central Washington University, and I have studied extensively in philosophy and religious studies. Because of my training in English, I have gained advanced experience in professional, academic, and creative writing. I have acquired extensive research skills, and my studies have equipped me with a deep understanding of multiple perspectives and ideas and communicate them effectively.
For five years I have taught English at Yakima Valley Community College, CWU, and Heritage University. I have been able to teach writing, critical thinking, analyzing skills, and rhetoric to a diverse mix of students, and I have also served as an academic advisor to guide them in their college career.
Teaching Style
I love working with people and have taught teenagers and adults. I am enthusiastic, compassionate, and easy-going with students. I understand each person will approach a subject differently, so I can offer several methods of instruction to students. I believe in teaching grammar rhetorically and feel students should gain a more hands-on approach instead of just hearing a lecture. I bring my knowledge of each subject and offer a number of techniques to help students understand a subject. I believe in a recursive process of writing so that students can understand the importance of writing as a process. I hope to improve student learning and give them that sense of enthusiasm and delight I have when it comes to writing.
