Experience Summary
As a recent college graduate, I have perfected the practice of reading and writing in a wide array of subjects. Through many writing intensive classes, I have worked hard at crafting my writing skills which culminated in a graduation with Cum Laude Honors as well as with a Departmental Distinction in Sociology. I would like to continue growing within the education arena. Over the last four and a half years I have completed one year of independent tutoring for students in English and Reading. In addition, I received a certificate in community development where I completed six months of over-sea study in South Africa in which I created, planned, and implemented a Life Skills After Skills Program for students in grades 1 through 7.
Teaching Style
It is my belief that education is the primary equalizing factor within the United States. I believe that a student’s success should not be viewed as only the reflection his or her ability but a reflection of the student’s environment, class, race, and gender. Given the myriad of factors, it is necessary to have passionate teachers who believe in the potential that each child has. Children are vastly receptive to creative outlets and are likely to take charge if that option is presented. These are the values I use to approach teaching. Hands-on and creative surroundings provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning. It is my goal to be a part of the fight towards equality, and it is through education that I wish to do so.
