Experience Summary
As the 7th Grade English and reading teacher at Robison Middle School, test scores on the state-mandated proficiency exam improved by 24%. After one year of service, I was asked to be the Chair of the Reading department. As the instructor for Read 180, I developed students' reading abilities who were far below school and district standards. Using a set curriculum based on computer, large group and small group discussion, I balanced classwork and themed topics to assist students in overcoming reading difficulties.
Teaching Style
I employ a number of different tactics while teaching. My main focus is using open-ended questions which help students understand not only what the correct answer is, but also why the answer is correct. I am focus-driven and work to set objectives. I will focus on an objective until it is understood completely.
I have a strong ability to relate concepts into real-life situations which helps students to retain the information they gain.
