Experience Summary
I developed a love for language, writing and learning as a high school student, so majoring in English was the natural choice for me. I graduated high schoool with honors and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College, a small liberal arts college, well-known for its academic excellence in MS and across the nation. After college I worked as a substitute instructor for all grade levels in my home town. Later, I worked for a summer as a news writer for the local daily news, The Vicksburg Evening Post. Several of my articles on the closing a state-run charity hospital won a MS Press Association Award of Excellence in 1989.
Teaching Style
As language is universal and so critial in conveying ideas, I truly enjoy teaching others to express themselves verbally and in writing. I believe it is important to explain the value of a particular subject matter and give a detailed summary of what should be accomplished in the lesson. I utilize a rather formal teaching style, because language has specific "rules" as far as what is correct or incorrect and what is acceptable speech, as opposed to unacceptable slang terminology.
