Experience Summary
After receiving my teaching certificate from the State of California, I taught in
Oakland, California public schools for nine years, and was appointed a Mentor
Teacher. I left Oakland in 1996, and taught for nine more years in Berkeley.
I became known as an outstanding teacher of writing and reading, and also
served as School Literacy Coach, leading monthly workshops for teachers
in the best practices for English literacy. In 2005 I left Berkeley to operate a
practice as Literacy Consultant, assessing and tutoring adolescents and adults
in need of reading, writing or study skills support. I have subject area expertise in
middle school science, world, US and European history, American, English,
European and world literature.
Teaching Style
I have taught every type of student, from struggling to gifted, including 2nd
language learners. My classrooms have always been models of structured
learning, high standards and high achievement. I am very skilled at managing both large and small groups, using tried-and -true strategies. In small group or one-
to-one settings, I am humane, empathetic and gently questioning. I believe that
all students deserve the quality teachers and resources to reach their personal potential.
