Experience Summary
I have a degree from UNC-A (BS in cell and molecular biology). This focus provided me understanding of chemistry, physics, and biology. I am applying to PhD programs in biochemistry. I spent two years in undergraduate research in cancer biology; specifically, to examine cellular proteins and their contribution towards metastatic cancers. I had the honor of presenting my research at the 2008 American Society of Cell Biology international meeting in San Francisco, CA. I spent the past two years as a university peer tutor; I tutored other students in general (non-major) biology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and microbiology. I have also advised students in writing scientific papers and general study and organizational skills.
Teaching Style
I love sharing my passion of science and learning! I tend to break down complex concepts into simple, more manageable components, by utilizing interesting analogies and easily understood associations before moving on to more complex subjects. I firmly believe that doing well in science or math requires comprehension, rather than just memorizing material for a test. Through examples, making problems "real," and consistent review will allow any student to succeed.
As an aside, I was diagnosed with adult ADHD almost four years ago. I desire to help students who are frustrated and feel like they can't achieve in school. I strive to help students excel in anything they want to accomplish!
